The drizzle didn't dampen the enthusiasm of local residents, who lined the route of about 17 kilometers. A minute of silence was given for those who died in the Sichuan earthquake. 73-year-old Ouyang Ziyuan, chief scientist on China's moon exploration project, was the first runner.
A total of 208 torchbearers carried the flame. After Guiyang, the torch goes to Kaili for its second stop on Friday and then Zunyi for its last stop in Guizhou on Saturday.
