WASHINGTON, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush held a video conference on Saturday with the U.S. diplomats in Mumbai, India, for their help to Americans who were caught in the terror attacks at the city.

During the one-hour video-teleconference, the president "thanked our ambassador and our consul general for all the work they've done to help Americans affected by the terrorists," said Dana Perino, the White House spokeswoman.

She said that the participants to the conference also included Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; David Mulford, the U.S. ambassador to India; Paul Folmsbee, consul general at the U.S. consulate in Mumbai; and members of Bush's national security team.

The teleconference came as six Americans have been confirmed dead in the pre-Thanksgiving attacks and standoff at the India financial capital leaving almost 200 dead and hundreds others injured.

In an effort to work closely with India authorities, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has sent a team to Mumbai and put another team on alert to join the investigation if necessary.

Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department has already issued an alert to its citizens in Mumbai that their lives may be in danger.

"There were very worrying tensions in the region," said Gordon Duguid, a State Department spokesman.
