A Microsoft Corp. joint
venture in China announced a
partnership with Sina Corp. that will link Microsoft's instant-messaging service with China's biggest microblogging service, in a move that could boost Microsoft's prominence in a market dominated by Chinese companies.
微软(Microsoft Corp.)在中国的合资企业宣布与新浪(Sina Corp.)建立合作关系,此举将把微软的即时讯息服务与中国最大的微博服务联系在一起,可能会提升微软在中国公司占主导的即时讯息市场中的声望。
Users of Sina Weibo, a Chinese Twitter-like microblogging service, will be able to link their accounts to Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger instant-messaging service and have their Sina Weibo messages
automatically displayed to their instant-messaging contacts, the companies said in a statement Thursday.
新浪和微软周四在一份声明中表示,建立合作后,新浪微博(Sina Weibo)的用户届时将可以把自己的微博账户连到微软的即时讯息服务Windows Live Messenger上,而新浪微博的信息也将同步显示在后者账户内。新浪微博是一个与推特(Twitter)类似的微博服务提供商。
The companies didn't say when the integration will begin. Both Windows Live Messenger and Sina Weibo, launched in 2009, have tens of millions of users in China, and Sina has said it aims to reach 100 million users by next year.

The new
partnership with Sina will include a
migration of Microsoft's blogging service, Windows Live Spaces, to Sina's blogging service as part of Microsoft's global move to exit the blogging business.

An MSN spokeswoman said the
partnership may
eventually also include collaborations on mobile Internet services, and will likely include marketing efforts that would raise visibility of Microsoft's services in China, which has more Internet users than any other nation. Sina, which also partners with Google Inc. by linking to the Internet giant's Web search results from its home page, operates one of China's largest Web portals.

The move comes as Microsoft's top instant-messaging service rival, Tencent Holdings Ltd., is in the midst of a spat with a Chinese software company that has led to service disruptions for many of its users.

As of the third quarter, Windows instant-messaging users had a 4.3% share of active instant-messaging accounts in China, while Tencent's QQ instant-messaging service had a 76.4% share, says
research firm Analysys International.
