ISLAMABAD, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Advisor to Prime Minister of Pakistan on Interior Rehman Malik Saturday asked officials investigating the attacks in Mumbai to submit its preliminary report in ten days.
Addressing a news conference here, Malik said, "I have given the team 10 days to present preliminary report."
He said the government had constituted on Thursday a three-member team to investigate the Mumbai attacks and examine the information provided by India.
The News Network International (NNI) news agency quoted Malik as saying that the investigating team was directed to conduct "a transparent and legally tenable inquiry". The investigators will "establish legally verifiable credentials of suspects allegedly involved in the terrorist attack," he said.
All further action would be taken according to Pakistani laws, Malik said, renewing Pakistan's call for a joint probe into the incident.
He also assured the world community and Indian authorities that Pakistan was "very serious in its commitments" to bring the perpetrators of the attacks to justice.
He said Pakistan was not acting under pressure from India and would not accept "dictation" from anyone regarding the probe.
Asked about British Foreign Secretary David Miliband's comments on Friday that Pakistan needed to go "farther and faster" in prosecuting those involved in the Mumbai attacks, Malik said, "We will not accept anyone's instructions to do things faster."
Malik said "quite a lot of material" was provided by India and the Pakistani investigators will work to convert this into" evidence that can stand up to judicial scrutiny."
There are "leads and good clues" in the information sent by India, he added.
Noting that it took India 42 days to share information on the Mumbai attacks, Malik said New Delhi should be patient and give Islamabad more time to complete its investigations.
