General Motors Co. plans to jointly develop more advanced powertrain technologies with its Chinese partner SAIC Motor Corp. for the global market, a GM executive said Wednesday.

In an interview, Daniel Hancock, GM's vice president of global strategic product alliances, said the two companies will co-develop small high-technology engines and automatic gearbox.
