(CCTV 10-03-2008 16:13) Some recent tests on dairy products conducted by China's food safety regulator have come back clean. And this seems to have reassured some shoppers, who are once again buying liquid milk.
Various liquid milk products are back on sale at some supermarkets in Wuhan of Hubei province. To help restore shoppers' confidence in these dairy products, many stores have posted signs announcing the products are melamine-free or safety reports issued by the quality authority.
Wuhan Resident, said, "After the government strengthened its testing measures, we feel safer. I like to drink liquid milk. I'm not worried about liquid milk."
As confidence in liquid milk rises, stores have begun offering promotions on these products. Discounts, free gifts and other measures have help boost the milk market.
Wuhan Resident, said, "Stores have been offering good deals on milk during the National Day Holiday. I feel better about buying these things."
Retailer said, "Regulators and inspectors are controlling the quality. Sales are good. Every batch of products has been tested. I am very confident about the quality."
China's food safety administration recently conducted its fifth inspection of dairy products. The test involved 418 batches of products in 65 brands. The samples came from markets in over 20 major cities, and everything came back melamine-free.
