Tomas became Arsène Wenger's first major signing of the summer when he completed a move from Borussia Dortmund shortly before the World Cup. The Czech international then showed exactly why the Arsenal manager was interested in his services with two stunning goals against the United States in Germany.
A highly-rated attacking midfielder, Tomas has a wealth of top-level experience. He made 31 appearances in the Champions League for Dortmund and Sparta Prague and won domestic titles in both his home country and Germany.
Tomas made his international debut aged just 17 and represented his country at the 2000 and 2004 European Championships. It was his play-off goal against Norway which secured the Czech Republic a place at the World Cup.
Quick and skilful with a powerful shot and an eye for a pass, Tomas will fill the midfield void left by Robert Pires' recent departure. He can play in a number of positions and operated on the left flank during Arsenal's pre-season tour of Austria.
