Spanish clubs and the value of their
exclusive TV rights helped put Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top of football's global
revenue league, according to a Deloitte survey published yesterday.
Barcelona climbed four places to second place in Deloitte's annual Football Money League on the back of
winning last season's Champions League and increasing
revenues by 25 per cent.
Strong commercial income helped Real Madrid to claim top spot again, with overall
revenues of 92.2m ($378m), although
revenue growth slowed to 6 per cent.
Juventus claimed third place, but will drop down next year in light of the
corruptionscandal that saw them relegated to Italian serie B.
In contrast, Manchester United, fourth this year partly on account of its early Champions League exit last season, is expected to climb the money league thanks to its stadium
expansion and new shirt sponsorship deal.
