Chinanews, Beijing, June 15 - With the soaring housing price in Beijing, more and more Beijingers choose to move to suburbs, and even
migrate to neighboring provinces, of which Hebei is their first choice. Take Yanjiao District of Sanhe as an example, where there are 100 thousand Beijing migrants.
These migrants take up about 50% of Yanjiao District's population, all of whom have moved here in the last 5 years. In fact, nearly 90% of houses in the district here have been sold to Beijingers, both young and old. A house of a floor space of about 100 sq m here only costs 300 thouand yuan. Many Beijingers
migrate here because they can fulfill their dreams of "a house and a private car" with only 500 thousand yuan.
According to Yanjiao District Administrative Commission, the average housing price there was only 1,000 yuan per sq m in 2002, while the price of some houses in Yanjiao District has now reached as high as 5,000 yuan per sq m.
"Houses in Yanjiao District are very cheap for Beijingers, but we local people can't afford them at all, for our average
monthly income is only 700 yuan," said a taxi driver there. "I have been living here all my life, and most of my neighbors still live in their old cottages. The booming property industry seems to have nothing to do with us."
