When I was a teenager ,I thought a person with a doctor's degree must be a know-it-all , so I have been longing to be a doctor for years . However bad at maths , I was considered as a girl more diligent than intelligent although many times in the exam I have got a good result .Hence the sustaining expectation effect from teachers and parents made me strongly believe it was beyond me to be a doctor in the future .And unfortunately ,it turned out to be true .

Last Thursday afternoon , I was about to leave the office when my telephone rang .It was from one of my friends ----an older brother . Friendship between generations ,I have been keping at arm's length with him since we we got hooked up through a friend of mine in the teahouse . To him , idling at a teahouse after work is the best way to get rid of fatigue . "What is up ? " , ten to one he started with the same simple greeting ".Nothing much .... You want to spring for dinner ? " I joked . " I would be more than pleased if I had the pleasure ", he said , " What about tomorrow evening ? " "I am free ." " Where ?" " It is up to you " " ok , xx teahouse would be better . Tomorrow evening . Six o'clock . That is settled .Let 's call it a date .See you " "See you ."
But ten minutes later , I received another call from my close friend Diana , inviting me to her party . Her husband ?to ?be , pursuing a doctor's degree in the most famous local university with Major Research Direction A-bomb ,would take part in the party too . He is very busy. We can see him once in a blue moon. "What shall I do ? Maybe I have to cut the date with my older brother this time . " " You stood me up again " , he complained ," Well , Let 's find another day ."
I went to the party .
After we made a pig of ourselves in an restaurant in walking distance , sb. suggested getting high in KTV . " Fine with me . " " and me too . " , we all turned our thumbs up with one voice .
Oh , I forgot to tell you it was the first time that we had met this husband-to-be of my close friend and had the chance to hang out with him ,for he was always engaged with his experiment . The meeting with him in his lab that evening took on some carnivalized elements as was presented in Zhou Xingchi's comedy. The room was in a mess ,with a lot of tubes and instruments on the desk . Some charts explained in English hangs on the wall . I took a glimpse of them and found I couldn't figure out their meanings at all . I think shaking hands is always the right thing to do when sb. meets a stranger for the first time .So as a lady ,I reached out my hand forwardly and encouragingly the moment he was introduced to me .But his girlfriend did sth that made it a how-do-you-do ! Hardly had we touched fingers of each other when she tore our hands apart .
" What is the meaning of this ? Aren't you away too far ? " I chuckled ," Don't be so mean ,dude . Take it easy . Anyway I won't get a crush on him right away .hehe ."
"No , you got it wrong . His hands are dirty .He was doing the experienment ."she explained .
" Really ? but ...it doesn't matter . I don't care at all . You know I have heard his name before by reputation and not until today did I take a chance to have the close contact with him ." , I said to her .
" And Mr doctor , very glad to meet you ...could you put your John Hancock right here .? I am one of your fans . " With these words ,I took out a piece of paper .
" But my handwriting is bad ..."He said seriously .
" Come on ,Sally . Knock it off. Give him a break ." his girlfriend came up and then turned to his boyfriend , "Don't take it seriously .She is playing jokes with you . Ok ,we are going to sing Karoke tonight . Would you like to join us ? " she looked at him expectantly .
"Doctor , don't do the donkeywork alone on the weekend . What a good time to kick back and relax !" Another girl edged on .
"But I haven't changed my clothes yet . They are dirty . "
"It is ok . No body check 我们不检查身体" the girl said .
We burst out laughing .
"oh ," he mused .
He left us far behind as soon as we walked out of the lab . The guy is laid back but a typical nerd like a hermit above the material attractions of the world ,I think .
There were six guys in the party ----two girls who are single plus two couples . We were playing to beat the band . Another girl's husband looking as if he had had one over the eight was a pretty nice singer (K 歌高手怎么说). We took turns to sing aloud and it really hit the spot ,except the party pooper (the doctor) who always escaped to sing with such an excuse as " beats me . I know nothing about this song " . I snatched a free moment to have a small talk with him and was surprised to find he had never got access to any entertainment TV programmes . He has never heard of such popular songs as 老鼠爱大米" before we told him . Gosh ! This is the doctor ! Believe it or not ! He is by no means a social butterfly . Perhaps to some extent he representes quite a few doctors who are leading most advanced researches on one side but don't know beans about life on the other side due to isolating themselves from the outside world. But it is no good .It is hard to adapt themselves to the society ,isn't it ?
Different from him ,his girlfriend was much more lively and kept herself in a high spirit the whole evening .Now and then she put a move on him by asking him such questions as " Do you love me ? " in front of us . Shyly , he answered in a low voice , " I wouldn't tell you " . We were amused a lot . hehe .
Finally under strong demand from us ,he sang two songs . Can you guess what are they ? One is the National Song .The other is returning from the target-practice . My God ! Haven't you ever heard sb.sing National Song in KTV ?
And don't knock it . That is a doctor supposed to be .
There was another thing that made me open my eyes that evening was to learn that their match maker was nobody but internet .
