The role of English

Nowadays in china, English is becoming more and more important and touching almost every aspects of our life. Its impact sees everywhere.
Why English? Can other languages, such as French, Deutsch, or Chinese take place that role? The answer is obvious not, it is hard to change that situation and rare benefits would be gained from changing it.
The most critical reason is that the fast changing world needs standard.
Today's economy is interactive, multifactor impacted. No country stands alone in the earth, no big complex system and no sophisticated products could born out without global incorporation, that is the reason, in industry fields, why the international organization emerged. Armed with the uniform standards, productivity could be dramatically improved, we have no need to worry about that our mp3 port can't be slotted in another person's computer as it is downloading songs from net, no need to worry about that our products would clash with others. Those are the powers the standard provides.
English is as nearly the same as the ISO.
As the communication increasing, information sharing needs standard. Otherwise, it must be lack of effectiveness. To learn one language well is hard, to learn multi languages well is harder, and to find enough person who both gain deep insight in their own specializes while learn well of multi foreign languages seems mission impossible. So we need standard and English holds the role.
To be a standard must be given reasons.
The first and most important factor is language holder's impact. USA is the sole superpower country in nowadays world, its official language is English, many modern scientific and technology terminologies were invented by American, to catch up with the miraculous speed of technology development, we have to read the cutting edge articles directly and almost all those are written in English, can we find way out? Maybe as Chinese we wish we could use Chinese as the standard, but we have to wait the day when we surpass USA, and there remains undoubtedly numerous work to do even that day eventually comes.
The second is the expressing effect and opening attributes of English. As a language, it shows outstanding expression effectiveness especially in science and technology. We can easily denote complex conceptions in a single character or strings. English itself adopts many exotic characters from Latin language system and Greece, etc. The processing of receiving new concept in English is ongoing. The opening attributes bring fresh blood into English despite sometimes the time of spending on remembering new words and new abbreviations is the overhead. In math, physical, chemistry, engineering, and many other character expression intensively subjects, English plays the extremely critical role.
The third is that English is easier to learn comparing with other languages.
Asian languages, Chinese, Japanese and Korea, are cataloged into hieroglyph. They are hard to master, hard to recognize, hard to express science concept in concise and clear way.
Other western languages, such as French, and Deutsch, both are more restrict in their grammars. To distinguish the attributes of a norm's negative, positive even including neuter in Deutsch seems extremely boring and add horrible burdens to exotic language learners to learn them well.
