Speech for Animals' Right
I am happy to be here. Today, I am speaking here on behalf of our friends, who also live in this planet--the animals.
Even nowadays, in the most people's eyes, animals have no consciousness, no thoughts, and no emotions. Therefore, they regard them as inferiorspecies. They empower themselves to imprison the animals, and to misteat them, kill them, and eat them. It is time that animals called for their rights to be treated with humanity.
Can you feel the suffocating atmosphere in a crowded cage where chicken were in captivity? Can you feel the pain when a horse is whipped severely by a strap while he is trying to run fast? Can you feel the agony of a mother cat whose babies were abandoned by her master? Can you feel the fear of a pig's fellow being killed and the next victim will be him? Of course your answer is no, because you are not them. But that does not mean the animals can not feel them. They have consciousness, thoughts, emotions, and even dignity as well as human beings, which have been proved by zoologists.
Someone argues that animals do not have morality and rationality, so that they do not deserve the rights. If the argument is true, it means that human babies do not deserve the right, and the mentally disabled do not deserve the right. However, no one will admit that.
Racists look down upon other races. Sexists look down upon the opposite sex. And human look down upon the other species only because they are not human, but they don't realize that humans are evolved from animals. Charles Darwin said, "There is no fundamental difference between humans and the higher mammals in their mental faculties." We have to see the point that humans differ from other species in "degree", but not in "kind". Just as the degree of adults and babies.
In recent years people have receive some paybacks from the animals. Such case as elephants attacking the village after their habitats have been destoryed is not the only one. SARS is also a retribution of humans' not treating animals well. There are plenty more. To some extent they are wars between humans and animals. As we are calling for a peaceful world, this kind of war should be stopped.
For that, show respect for the animals. Treat your pets more lovingly. Do not pollute the environment so they have home to live. You don't have to be a vegetarian but you can eat less meat and pray for them who serve your stomach with their lives. They will thank you. And I represent them to thank you.
