T:If we don’t have aircraft, train, and ship, how would you go?

T:It must take a long time to reach the destination. So we should thank those who invented the plane, the train, and many other useful things to people. They make our life more
convenient and easier. Do you know some other inventions and inventors that contributed to our daily life?
S1:Edison who invented light.
S2:Four great inventions in ancient china. These are compass, power, printing, and making paper.

T: Well done. I know you have a good knowledge of inventions and inventors. Today let’s look at other good ideas in Unit 18.

T: There are four pictures. Match each picture with the correct
description below. ( give them 1 minute) volunteer?

T: Do you agree with him?
Ss: Yes.
T: Now let’s look at the description. ( ask four students to read the four statements) Now do you know their usage?
Ss: Yes.
T: Good! Which of the inventions do you think be useful? Why? Think over. You can use the useful expressions in the
speaking part.(write the useful expressions on the blackboard)
S4: I may have a try. I think the
edible chopstick is very useful. Because this
invention makes it possible to people to save trees and further to protect the environment.

T: I think these inventions are all useful to us. Is there anything you want to invent? If so, what and why? You can discuss your own idea with your deskmates. (Various answers are OK.)

T: How do you have this idea?
S6: It is just my imagination.
T: OK. Besides imagination, we also need creativity and good thinking strategies. Now, let’s look at the
reading part. What do we need if we want to be creative.

T: In the morning class, I have let you preview the passage. Look at the five subtitles. What does they mean in Chinese? Can you explain them in your own words?
S7: “Think outside the box” means “框外思维”. It may mean that we can think about a problem in a different way.
S8: “Take another look at it” means “换个角度看问题”. It may mean that we should think about a problem in as many ways as possible.
