Step 1. Lead-in
Show the pictures of David Beckham and the Big Ben and ask the students the following questions:
Who is he?
What is it?
Which country is he/it in?
Step 2. Fast reading
1.Scan reading
Scan the text and find answers to the following questions:
①  Do you know how many parts the UK is made up of ?
②  How many countries make up the British Isles?
2.TRUE or FALSE questions:
(   )1. Many people around the world study English, and they all know a lot about British culture.
(   ) 2. Great Britain is made up of four countries.
(   ) 3. The island of Britain is separated from France by the English Channel.
(   ) 4. Scotland is colder throughout the year, but receives less rain.

3.Ask the students to read the passage and find out the general idea of each paragraph.

4.Ask the students to read paragraph 6 again.
① Fill in the blanks with proper words.
② Find out the events in the text and finish the form.
5. Let the students read paragraph 7 to finish the picture.
Step 4. Students’ activities
Discuss in groups and present their dialogues to let the other students know more information about the British Isles.
Imagine that you are going on a four-week trip through the UK. Make a travel plan in which you describe where you will go and what clothes and things you will take.
Step 5. Summary
Sum up what we’ve learnt in this passage.
Step 6. Homework
Write down their travel plans.
