1.meet
(1).v. “碰到,遇到”
I met her in the street.
We met each other quite by chance.
I met a lot of difficulties in the work.
The two teams meet next Saturday in volleyball.
(2).v. “接(人,车)”
Will you meet me at the airport?
The hotel bus meets all the trains.
(3).v. “接触,联结”
His hand met hers.
These trousers won’t meet round my waist more.
(4) “支付,偿付(费用)”
You have to meet all the bills.
The cost will be met by the company
(5)meet with sb “偶遇,与某人会晤”
I was fortune to meet with my uncle at the airport.
The president meet with senior White House aides at breakfast.
(6)meet with sth “遭受,遇到”
I was fortune to meet with a complete Lu Xun at the Shanghai Market
The terrorists are bound to meet with a terrible fate. 恐怖分子注定要遭到可怕的结局.
His speech met with a cold acceptance. 他的演讲受到冷遇。
(7)meet one’s demands满足某人的需要
2.seldom .adv. 一般放在实意动词之前,be动词,助动词之后。“不常,很少”。
I’ve seldom seen such a big apple.
She seldom reads a book.
He seldom goes to see the film, does he?
[注意]
seldom 视作否定词,所以它的反意疑问句,应用肯定式。类似的词还有hardly, rarely , scarcely, never等
3.turn out
(1)证明是,最后的情况是--- 后面通常跟形容词或不定式to be.
Everything turned out well.
It turned out that he was right.
It turned out (to be ) a fine day.
The boy turned out successful after all.
(2)“生产,制造,培养出,出来,参加”
The factory turns out 500 trucks every day.
Our school has turned out some first-rate scholars.(一流的学者)
4.even though 是连词词组,作“即使,尽管”解,引出表示让步的状语从句。Even though 也可以用even if 代替,意思和用法相同。
We like English even though it is rather difficult for us.
Some disabled people become world-famous even if they met with lots of difficulties.
We have determined to visit the place of interest here even if/though it rains tomorrow.
5.as if / as though
as if /as though 是从属连词,意义用法相同,引导方式状语从句,意为“好象”。
(1)as if /as though 引出的方式状语从句如果是事实或可能性,多用陈述语气,常与“look, seem, taste, smell, sound”等词搭配。
It looks as if it is going to rain.
It seems as if the boy has lost his way.
He is a happy-go-lucky man as if he has no worries and cares in the world.
他是个无有无虑的人,好象世上没有任何让他发愁和烦恼的事。
(2) as if /as though 引出的方式状语从句所表示的情况不事实,而是主观想象或夸大性比喻时,通常用虚拟语气。
The young man with long hair looks as if he were a woman.
Everything in my childhoodcrowded up on my mind as if they had just happened.
童年的往事一齐涌上心头,好象是刚刚发生。
(3) as if /as though引导的同一从句中时态不同,意思也往往不同。
He looks as if he is ill. 他好象病了。
He looks as if he were ill. 他好象得了病。(其实并没有生病)
He looks as if he had been ill. 他好象过去生个病似的。(其实没有生过病)
(4) as if /as though 后的方式状语从句常为省略形式。
The football player is rolling on the ground as if hurt badly in the leg.
那个足球运动员在地上滚来滚去,好象腿部受了重伤。
He moved his lips as if to speak.
She talked to the stranger while walking, as if absent-mindedly.
He opened the room, as if in search of some information.
He acts as if a fool
6.brain脑
brains 头脑,智力,智力超群的人们
The brain is the center of the nervous system.
He is one of the leading brains in the country.他是国家知识分子的精英。
7.与天气有关的常用词和词组:
