Period 1.
Step 1.Warming up
1.Brainstorming:
a.Work in groups to find out as much as you can about the geography, history, language, culture, famous people, buildings and other things in the UK and Ireland.
b.Use a map to let the Ss know the
location of the British Isles.
2.Following the steps of the warming-up on page 33.
Step 2. Pre-reading
1.Show some pictures of famous
architecture and famous
scenery pictures of the UK and Ireland.
2.group work: describe the pictures.
Step 3. While-reading
1.Scanning: Ss read quickly and answer:
What are the most important facts about the United Kingdom?
How many countries make up the British Isles?
What are the most important facts about Ireland?
2.Ss read and get the main ideas of each paragraph.
Step 4. Post-reading:
Finish the three questions on P 36.
Step 5. Assignment
surf the internet and get more information about the topic.
Period 2.
Step 1. Warming up
Divide the Ss into a few groups to do group work.:
Choose one of the following topic to discuss: history /
geography /culture / language
(after the
discussion each group elect a
speaker to report their result to the whole class.)
Step 2. Learning about the language
Teacher explain some language points in the text on page 19--20.
1.The idea that English stands for fish & chips, the Speaker Corner and the Tower of London is past.
