Teaching aims
Help the students to build up
vocabulary about environment.
Enable the students to use the
vocabulary both orally and in writing.
Enable them to make a list of words with the prefix “eco”
Teaching procedure
Step 1 Warming-up
Show the students a plastic bottle and a paper box. Ask the the following questions:
What does each of them made of?
Which one is friendly to the environment?
Tell them the paper box is environmentally friendly. And I am an environmental- ly friendly person
If I am going to open an hotel, what kind of hotel will it look like?
What makes it special?
Step 2 Reading
Get them to read the short passage in part A. And guess the meaning of the words.

Step 3 Talk about the pictures
1. Ask the students to look at the pictures. Work in groups and then answer the questions.
What can you see in the picture?
What is the problem does the picture want to show us?
2. Ask some students to talk about the pictures. And then use the correct
compound nouns in the box to label the pictures below. Give them
explanation if necessary.
Step 4. Have a try
Ask the students to read the passage on page 27. Fill in the blanks with the words from the
previous page.

Step 4 Vocabulary supplement
Ask the student to work in groups. And ask them to write down words with the prefix “eco” as many as possible. The group
finding the most will be the winner. Tell them they may use a dictionary.
Possible answer: ecology eco-tourism eco-friendly ecosystem eco-balance
Step 6 Homework
Suppose you are newspaper reporter. You happen to see the scene shown in the pictures on page 26. Choose one to write a report on what you see and what you think about it.
