　　反意疑问句是英语测试的热点之一。本单元同学们要重点学习反意疑问句一致的22个方面。如：当陈述部分是“I am + 表语”时，附加疑问句用 “aren't I”。

【指点迷津】

　　rather than的用法

　　短语 rather than 究竟作介词还是连词，不同的词典和语法书说法不一，给初学者造成了一些用法上的混乱，特别是当 rather than 后接动词的非谓语形式时，更是不知如何是好。

　　※ rather than 位于句子谓语动词之前时，相当于一个特殊介词，后接不带 to 的不定式。 汉语意思是“宁可不；宁愿不”。

　　Rather than risk breaking up his marriage , he told his wife everything .

　　Rather than get money in such a dishonest way , he would beg in the streets .

　　Rather than allow the vegetables to go bad , he sold them at half price .

　　当然，位于句首的 rather than 后面的也完全可以接名词或代词。如：

　　Rather than a new car , he bought a color television .

　　※ rather than 位于句子谓语动词之后时，相当于一个并列连词，连接两个句法功能相等的结构。结构如下：

　　1 . 连接两个代词或名词短语。如：

　　It ought to be you rather than me that signs the letter .

　　If someone maintains that two and two are five , you feel pity rather than anger .

　　2 . 连接两个限定词或形容词。如：
　
　　It was the listener's , rather than the speaker's will that was questioned .

　　3 . 连接两个 ( 状语性 ) 副词短语或介词短语。如：

　　Can we do it now rather than tomorrow ?

　　4 . 连接两个谓语动词。如：

　　They were screaming rather than singing .

　　5 . 连接两个动词的非谓语形式。如：

　　He is to be pitied rather than to be disliked . 他值得人们同情而不应遭人唾弃。 ( 带 to 的不定式短语 )
　　
　　6 . 连接两个分句。如：
　
　　It was what he meant rather than what he said that made me cross .

　　※ 有时，rather than 相当于一个主从连词，后接一个 that 从句，既可位于句首，也可位于主句谓语动词之后，从句的谓语动词一般用 should 型虚拟式。如：

　　Rather than that you should go , I will go myself .

　　I would do anything rather than that he should get hurt .

　　1. seldom很少，不常

　　He seldom reads newspapers .

　　〖点拨〗seldom的同义词是rarely , 反义词是often 。seldom用在句中时，后面的反意疑问句用肯定形式。如：She seldom plays volleyball , does she ?
　
　　2. prevent防止，阻止，预防

　　These rules are intended to prevent accidents .
　
　　〖点拨〗prevent (stop , keep) … from + ing阻止……干…… 。注意，介词from可以省略，但是当from后是被动语态时，from不能省略。如：

　　Nobody can prevent this project from being carried on .

　　注意灵活使用prevent 。如：We try our best to prevent pollution to live a better life .

　　3. matter

　　Everything in the world is made up of matter .
