One of the most important social graces in the American society is punctuality which means arriving on time.

Most people consider it discourteous for a person to arrive at an appointment later than the time agreed on.

Also, for most social engagements,

especially those in a private home,

it often causes inconvenience for a guest to come either earlier or later than the suggested hour.
