Animals in the winter



The weather gets colder and leaves fall off the trees. Then comes the winter. How do animals spend the winter?

Some birds fly south for the winter. They go to a warmer place to find food. This is called migration.

Some animals hibernate all winter. This is a deep sleep. Bears hibernate in dens.

Frogs hibernate at the bottom of ponds. The water does not freeze there.

Bats hibernate in caves hangingupside down.

Many animals stay active in winter. Rabbits grow new thicker fur to stay warm.

Squirrels gather nuts and store them to eat during the winter.

And just like animals, we get ready for the winter. We wear our warm winter clothes.
