Teaching procedure
Pre-task preparation
T: I want to tell you what I did yesterday. I went to visit my friends “Hi” & “Lo”.
Here is what I saw. Open your books.
Turn to page 33. (Have the Ss tell me what they did & why.)
While-task procedure
1 T: Because Lo saw a
robbery yesterday. / He wanted to save his money.
By the way, the
robbery is very strange. / I will show you what happened.
2 Ask the Ss what tense we should when we talk about the past.
3 Ask the Ss how to talk about the past tense. (v. + ed & the past time): Have some Ss tell the others then get them to read LANGUAGE themselves. (First B then A.)
A一般过去时的用法:
a 主要用于过去某个时间发生的动作或状态。
My father worked in Shanghai last year.
b 表示过去经常或反复发生的动作,常与often,always等表示频度的时间状语连用。
I often went to school on foot.
B表示过去的时间状语
一般过去时常与表示过去的时间状语连用。如: then, yesterday,
yesterday morning,the day before yesterday, last week(year, night, month, term…), an hour ago, a moment ago, the other day, in 1982, just now, once upon a time…
4 Have the Ss finish the exercise of A on page 40 then check the answers one by one.
Pre-reading preparation
T: Robbery is something bad. / Lo is afraid of being
stolen so he put all his money in his body. / Have you ever been
stolen by the thieves? / Or have you ever seen such things happened around you.
Get the Ss to talk about it.
While-reading procedure
T: Now here is a diary that was written by Sun Fei for you to read. / Look at the pictures & read the diary as fast as you can then answer the questions.
Have the Ss tell me the tense of the diary. Tell the Ss the diary should be in past tense.
1 What is the day today?
2 What date is it today?
3 Where are they?.
4 What is the man doing with the bag in the first picture?
5 Which people are arguing?
6 Which person is Sun Fei?
7 Who is the man
standing next to Sun Fei?
8 What is he doing?
Consolidation
1 Finish LANGUAGE in Book B (p34 A&B; p36: D)
2 Look up the dictionary for the new phrases & expressions on page 48 (happen to – in handcuffs). USING ENGLISH on page 47 will help the Ss.
3 Make sentences with the new phrases & expressions
4 Finish READING in Book B (p40: A)
Period 2
Objectives
1 To read about a diary.
2 To learn to skim and scan a passage
3 To analyze the new words, useful phrases & expressions
Preparations
SB 7A, page 34 & 35
Teaching procedure
Pre-reading preparation
Have one or two Ss tell the class what he/she would do when he/she sees the thieves.
While-reading procedure
1 Have the Ss read the diary then answer the questions of A3.
2 Games : Have the Ss guess the meaning of the green worlds. (Books closed. The
competition is between the boys & the girls. Teacher gives the Ss some tips with other words or body languages.)
3 Have some Ss teach the whole class the new phrases & expressions. The teacher will help him/her if necessary.
4 Play the tape. Students listen & repeat.
Post-reading activities
1 Have a student tell the general idea of the diary.
2 Have the Ss finish A4.
Consolidation
1 Copy the new words.
2 Choose 3 useful phrases & expressions to make sentences.
3 Re-read the letter
4 Finish LANGUAGE in Book B (p35: C; p36: E)
5 Finish READING in Book B (p41: B)
