Step Ⅰ Greet the class as usual and check the homework.
Step Ⅱ
Show the new words on the
screen and teach the new words. Read the new words to students and ask them to repeat.

This activity provides
reading practice using the target language.
First show a picture on the screen. Talk about the picture.
T: What can you see in the picture?
Ss: A pig.
T: What kind of pig is it? Can you guess?
Ss: Is it a wild pig?
T: I’m sorry it isn’t. It is the pot-bellied pig. Now we’ll learn Activity 3a,the article. It is about the pot-bellied pig.
Go through the instructions with the class. Check that students understand the word pot-bellied(fat).Tell students that they must
circle the good things about pot-bellied pigs and underline the bad things in the
reading passage.
Read the story to the class. After that, ask if students have any questions about the words or phrases in the article. Check
comprehension by asking questions such as what does perfect mean?
Then say, Now please read the story again. Write the answers to the two questions. As students work, move around the room clarifying the instructions and
offering help.
Check the answers.
Possible answers
the good things: Pot-bellied pigs make good friends. They can watch TV on the sofa when they are small.
the bad things: They eat a lot, they get too big to sleep in the house and they need a lot of love.

This activity provides
writing practice using the target language.
First look at the picture. Ask, What can you see in the picture?(A hamster.)
Go through the instructions with the class. Ask a student to read the notes about hamsters.

Then ask a student to read the
beginning of the article in the book. Say, Now finish

At the end, get a student to read his or her completed article to the class. Allow other students to ask questions and read some of the different sentences they used in their articles.

This activity provides open-ended
writing practice using the target language.
Read the instructions aloud to the class. Help students to think of what animals they could write about. Write the new animal names that are mentioned on the board and explain the names to the rest of the students.
