A field(田),where strength(力)is exerted,is the symbol for “masculine”man 男,the male of the human species.This is probably because the home is where the female of the same species exerts her strength. The feature of farm cultivation is men do field-work and women do housework,it was also the most common division of labour in ancient families.

“男”字是由“田”和“力”组成的，表示在田间用力耕作的，就是男子。男主外，女主内的分工，也是农耕社会常见的分工方式。

True Man（Hero）

A man is called "Han", beginning in the reign of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty. At that time, the Han Dynasty officers and men fought bravely,The soldiers of XiongNu(an ancient nationality in China), call the Han soldiers“Han man” or “true man”. After Song and Yuan Dynasties, " true man "is often used to praise the people who are generous in aiding needy people,such as heroes of the《Water Margin》. As time goes by, the combination of “Han man” 、"man"and"male" form the word " true man(Hero)".

“True man(Hero)”is a praise and honor to a man. Describe a man who is brave and impavidity for justice、no fear of sacrifice、disregard fame and wealth、and have courage for commitment.

男子汉

男子称“汉”，始于汉武帝时期。当时因为汉朝将士作战勇猛，匈奴士兵将汉兵称作“汉儿”和“好汉”。宋元以后，“好汉”常被用来称誉“仗义疏财，扶危济困”之人，如《水浒传》中的英雄好汉。随着时间的推移，“汉子”、“好汉”与“男子”相混合构成“男子汉”一词。

“男子汉”是对男性的褒奖，是形容一个男人为正义而英勇无畏、不怕死、不计名利、有责任、有担当。
