Making Up
Connie: Hey, Jessie, wait up1!
Jessie: Hi, Connie. What are you doing out on the track?
Connie: Your mom told me I'd find you here. I didn't know you liked to jog2?
Jessie: I'm preparing.
Connie: Preparing?
Jessie: Yeah, for adolescence3. I was told that jogging would redistribute my baby fat and open my pores4 to help ward off5 acne6.
Connie: Really?
Jessie: Yeah, that's what I read in a jogging suit catalog.
Connie: Hey, can we stop for a minute?
Jessie: Well, I'm sorry, I don't want to break my pace7. Jog along -you can do it.
Connie: Uh, okay, maybe for a minute.
Jessie: You know, I've been thinking about our homeless committee8.
Connie: Yeah?
Jessie: I think I have an idea that will raise some money for the poor.
Connie: Good. Let's meet at Whit's End, 5 o'clock, to talk about it.
Jessie: Does that mean Miss Boss will be there, too?
Connie: Well, she's part of the group, Jessie. I talked to her, and she...
Jessie: Don't you think she's bossy?
Connie: Well...
Jessie: Be honest, Connie.
Connie: Well, yeah, she likes to be in charge, but...
Jessie: See I'm not the only one. She's got a lot of nerve9 calling me unreliable10.
Connie: She didn't mean it. I talked to her. She's willing to make up if you are. Jessie: Really?
Connie: Yeah!
Jessie: She'll take back11 what she said about me being unorganized?
Connie: Yeah, will you do it? Come to Whit's End?
Jessie: Well, I will if she will.
Connie: Uh, thank heaven. I think I'm going to pass out12.
Jessie: Well, do it over there on the grass, will you? I don't want to break my pace.
Connie: No problem.
