Those are some of the findings of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP's midyear outlook of U.S. mergers and acquisitions. The consulting firm found private equity deals accounted for 20% of total deal volume for the first half of 2013, representing $103 billion in disclosed deal value.

The survey also found that despite a slowdown in deal activities for the first six months of 2013 compared with year-earlier results, fundamentals for deal making remain strong.
