Helen: 大家好,我是 Helen.
John: Today, we're going to look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary.
Helen: 地道英语和大家一起学习现代英式英语中经常出现的流行词汇和实用表达。那 John, 今天你给我们带来的新词是什么呢?
John: Well, today's phrase is to go ballistic.
Helen: Sounds a bit odd, what does it mean? 子弹发射? To go ballistic. John 你最好给我们解释一下吧!
John: If you go ballistic, you become enraged, really really angry!
Helen: 这么说如果一个人 go ballistic, 那意思就是说他已经失去理智了,被什么事情给气疯了, to go ballistic.
John: Someone's about to go ballistic here.
Example
A: Well, I told her we were going on holiday next week.
B: Bet she's looking forward to it.
A: No, she went ballistic, she said ''I can't go because I've got an interview that week!''
B: You idiot!
Helen: I can see why she went ballistic, she couldn't go on holiday!
John: She really went ballistic, she went mad! Her boyfriend organised a holiday when she couldn't possibly go.
Helen: So she went ballistic, 她被气坏了,已经失去了理智。
John: OK, if something suddenly makes you angry you can say, ''I went ballistic!'' meaning you went crazy, mad, very very angry!
Helen: John, don't go ballistic at me!
John: Don't worry Helen, I'm not angry, yet!
Helen: You've been listening to Real English from BBC Learning English. 我们下次节目再会。
