Adele has picked up two gongs at the Brit Awards ceremony in London to add to the six she won last week at the Grammys in the USA. She triumphed in the Best British Album and Best British Female categories.
It caps a stellar year in which the 23 year-old's album 21 has sold 17 million copies worldwide and topped the charts in 24 countries.
Accepting the Best Album accolade, which was the final and most prestigious of the night, she said:
"Nothing makes me prouder than coming home with six Grammys and coming to the Brits and winning Album of the Year. I'm so proud to be British and to be flying our flag."
The great and the good from the music industry have been singing her praises. Kylie Minogue described Adele as "phenomenal", while Dizzee Rascal added:

"She's a genuine artist. When you watch her live on stage and hear her, she's the real deal." The general feeling seems to be that Adele is a one-off.
The only thing marring the night for Adele was having her acceptance speech cut short. The presenter interrupted to introduce the final performers, Blur, who themselves won a trophy for their outstanding contribution to music.
In other news from the ceremony, Coldplay were crowned Best British Group, which makes them the most successful group in that category in the history of the awards.
