很久很久以前,后羿到山中狩猎的时候，在月桂树下遇到嫦娥，两人一见钟情，便以月桂树为媒人，结为夫妻。后来后羿因为射日有功，西王母赏赐后羿一些长生不老的灵药。据说，服下此药，能即刻升天成仙。然而，后羿舍不得撇下妻子，自己一人享用，便欢天喜地地将药带回家，交给嫦娥好好收藏，准备找个合适的时间，两人一起服下。嫦娥小心翼翼地将药藏进自己的梳妆盒里。不料这事被后羿的徒弟蓬蒙发现了。三天后，后羿出去打猎，心怀鬼胎的蓬蒙假装生病，留了下来。等后羿走后不久，蓬蒙手持宝剑闯入内宅后院，威逼嫦娥交出不死药。嫦娥自知不是蓬蒙的对手，情急之下吞下了所有的长生不老药。刚吞下药，她便身轻如燕，飘出窗口，直上云霄，想停都停不下来，最后停留在了月亮上。后羿回来后，心如刀绞，拼命朝月亮追去。可是，他进月亮也进，他退月亮也退，永远也追不上月亮。嫦娥在月亮上的广寒宫里寂寥难耐，她非常思念自己的丈夫，于是就催促吴刚砍伐桂树，让玉兔捣药，想配成飞升之药，好早日回到人间与丈夫团聚。月母为二人的真诚所感动，于是允许嫦娥每年在月圆之日到人间与后羿在月桂树下相会。据说民间有好多人都曾经听到后羿与嫦娥在月桂树下窃窃私语呢！

In chinese mythology, there is a beautiful lady living on the moon. Her name is Chang'e. Do you know why does she live on the moon? Lesson Content: Long time ago, while he was hunting in the mountains, Hou'yi saw Chang'e standing under a laurel tree. It was a love at first sight and with the laurel tree as their matchmaker, they got married. Later on, because Hou'yi was very skilled with the bow, the Queen Mother of the West bestowed upon him a potion for immortality. It is said taht if one took this medicine, he would right away ascend to heaven and become immortal. Since Hou'yi didn't want to take the potion alone and leave his wife behing, he joyously returned home with the medicine and geve it to Chang'e for safekeeping, looking for a good time to take it together. Chang'e very carefully hid the panacea in her dresser. Somehow, Hou'yi's apprentice, Peng Meng, found out about this. Three days later, Hou'yi left to go hunting and Peng Meng pretending to be ill, stayed behind. Not long after Hou'yi left, Peng Meng carrying a sword entered the back yard of the house and threatened Chang'e to give him the immortality medicine. Knowing that she is no equal of Peng Meng, in a moment of desperation, Chang'e swallowed the entire potion. As soon as she did that, she bacame light as a swallow and flew out through the window soaring into the sky and couldn't stop even if she tried. At last she landed on the moon. Hou'yi came home and felt as if a knife was being twisted into his heart. He tried everything to get to the moon, but no matter what he did the moon was unattainable. In her moon palace Chang'e was unbearably lonely. She often thought of her husband, so she asked Wu Gang to cut a laurel tree and the moon to mix a medicine that would make her fly, so she could soon return among the people and reunite with her husband. The moon was so moved by the sincerity of the two people, that she allowed Chang'e every year when the moon was at its fullest to return to the people and meet Hou'yi under the laurel tree. It is said that many people have already heard Hou'yi and Chang'e whisper under the laurel tree.
