HS: Le Le, yesterday's party was awesome, I haven't had so much fun for
awhile now.
LL: Sure thing. But
yesterday you guys ordered way too many meat dishes, my friend is a vegetarian.
HS: Oh no, my bad, why didn't she say so? Anyway, the Chinese always say, "there's no pleasure without meat", what meaning is there if there is no meat on the dining table?
LL: Once, I joined her and her vegetarian friend for a meal, all the dishes were vegetables, tofu, mushrooms and what not, merely vegetables, there were already about seven to eight varieties: Chinese cabbage, broccoli raab, celery, spinach, long beans, snow peas, broccoli, etc. Not only that, she also explained to me the many benefits of going on a vegetarian diet.
HS: I feel that vegetarians are picky eaters, what benefits can there possibly be?
LL: You can't say that. In the first place, there are different categories of vegetarians! Some are vegetarian because of religious beliefs, for instance, it's only natural that Buddhists cannot eat meat; some are vegetarians for the sake of protecting animals. What does that have to do with being picky eaters!
HS: And your friend?
LL: My friend did it for her health, she said that after becoming a vegetarian, her health improved, her skin improved, and emotionally, she's more relaxed. Moreover, vegetarianism is also
beneficial for the environment.
HS: And what has this got to do with the environment?
LL: According to her, livestock such as cows and sheep give off gas which pollutes the environment. Excessive
consumption of beef or mutton/lamb will increase emission of such gas, and this adds to environmental pollution. So, eating less meat is good for the environment.
HS: Really? No wonder more and more people are becoming vegetarians!
LL: How about it? Wanna give it a try?
HS: Go ahead if you want to try it out! I can't
resist the
temptation of meat.
