For pupil Xiao Ming, summer
vacation is still more tiring than usual.
Every day there are at least 4 classes, from
musical instruments class to Olympic
mathematics class, then to English class. From morning to evening every thing is fully arranged.
One mother
saying that her daughter is only 9 years old but she is doing homework till late at 11 pm or even midnight.
Every day the nation cries out for education
reform and reducing burden for students. But why is it that students are still so tired?
The reason is that students face
pressure to enter a higher grade school and that parents have high expectations of their children.
In order to pass the entrance
examination to a university, in future; to find a good job; children since early
childhood are sent to various specialty classes by their parents. Such as English class, Olympic
mathematics class, piano class, dance class,
painting class, and swimming class, etc. There are among them some children who will go to further studies out of interest, but the majority of them are forced to accept the choice of their parents. Because specialty can add
status to a higher grade school and can offer children an even more
promising future. "Can't let a child lose at the starting line"
is almost the consensus of all the parents.
What's more, after-class tutoring classes will be done inside the schools. For example, there are some schools with various names that demand that students
participate in extra classes after regular class.
There are also teachers who in their own name collect fees for
running a class. At school, teachers and parents "make concerted efforts" to change a summer
vacation for students into "a third semester".
Will the children's
vacation life be fully arranged in a better way or not? There are parents who think that allowing children to take part in various training classes cannot be a waste of time. But education experts tell us that
actually changing the summer
vacation into a 'third semester' is just a waste of time. Parents at summer
vacation must leave enough freedom for their children to allocate time and space. Children can join a summer camp, and companions or parents can in common learn through personal experience how to earn one's own living from camp life. They can also take part in
exposure to real life, make own personal design and do activities that put practice into effect. Going into
vacation under such relaxed conditions, students not only come close to nature, they also improve their life by being able to take care of themselves. They acheive
improvement of the
ability of interpersonal
communication and also
improvement of the
consciousness of team cooperation. An even more important point, children through this process will not regard studies as a burden.
