80年代初的时候，曾经有一首海外游子的歌红遍了大陆，歌名叫："我的中国心"。其中"洋装虽然穿在身，我心依然是中国心"一句在当年可谓是家喻户晓、妇孺皆知。At the beginning of 1980s, a song sung by an oversea Chinese enjoyed overwhelming popularity in mainland China. The name of the song is "My Chinese Heart". One sentence of the lyrics, "Although I wear foreign clothes, my heart is still the same Chinese heart." became a household sentence in China at the moment.  

        那个时候，出国还是一件不太容易的事情，因此，能有资格说自己"依然是中国心"的人还不是很多。所以，没出过国的人在吟唱这首歌的时候除了表达对游子们爱国之情的认同之外，内心中恐怕还有一丝羡慕和向往，那就是：我也想"依然"一回。At that time, going abroad was not easy. Therefore, not many Chinese people could have the opportunity to claim "My heart is still the same Chinese heart". Therefore, when people who never went abroad sang this song, they might not only appreciate the patriotism of the overseas Chinese, but also feel a little bit admiring and longing. They maybe said to themselves "I also wanted to be qualified to express my heart with this lyric truly ".  

        二十几年过去了，今天，对于一部分先富裕起来的中国人来说，出个国已经不再是件值得大惊小怪的事情了。至于像我们这些需要长期在国外常驻的人，更是有大把的机会体会一下：人在国外，到底哪些中国的东西能够"依然"？

More than 20 years have been past. Today, for the Chinese who got rich first, it is no longer a big deal to go abroad. As to us, who need to work abroad in a long term, we have enough opportunities to get to know which parts of us can still be kept Chinese. 

        结果发现：和"我心依然"相比，在国外，那些物质化的文化特征更不容易改变。比如，确有部分人在出国以后心已不再是中国心了，但不再吃中国饭的中国人却几乎没有。The result is, comparing to a sense of belonging, when abroad, it's even harder for us to change some materialized cultural characteristics. For example, some Chinese people might be unfaithful to their mothercountry after they went abroad, but I possibly can find no one who can do without eating Chinese food.  

        在常驻国外的这些年中，我只认识一个据说是连肚子都西化了的中国人。所谓据说就是据他自己说，其中不乏一种另类的自豪。我的这个朋友在一家美国IT公司的欧洲总部工作，和那些在国内大型企业工作的单身一样，他也是一天三顿都在公司的食堂就餐，只不过他去的是洋食堂，吃的都是些大块儿的东西。During my years abroad, I only know one single Chinese man who claimed that his stomach was also westernized. This claim was put forward by himself with a certain pride. He worked for the European headquarter of an American IT company. Like many single persons in big state-owned companies in China, he had three meals in the company's cafeteria every day. The only difference was that he went to a western cafeteria and ate meals in big portion.  

        根据我对他的了解，此人从小就习惯吃苦，并以能适应各种恶劣环境著称。因此，当我们很"同情"地问他："天天吃西餐，能受得了吗？"他自己却是一脸的不在乎，很轻松地就回答说："没什么，我很习惯；而且，吃惯了西餐再吃中餐，我总感到中餐提供的热量不够。"在他说这句话的那一瞬间我真的相信一个中国人是可以全盘西化的，因为一个正常的中国人绝对不会从热量的角度来谈论中餐。According to my knowledge, this guy had been used to a rough life since little and was famous for his ability of getting used to all kinds of difficult situations. Therefore, when we asked him "sympathetically": "How can you bear to eat western food everyday?" He seemed careless and replied easily, "It is nothing. I've quite got used to it. Instead, I think Chinese food could not provide enough calories compared with the western food." At that moment, I really believed that a Chinese could be totally westernized because it was such an unusual thing for a Chinese to talk about food with the word "calories".  

         然而，就是这样的一个中国人，一到了周末就找借口到我们的宿舍来"玩"，而"玩"的主要内容就是：大吃一顿我们做的中餐。看着他很过瘾的样子，我不得不得出结论：相比之下，"洋装虽然穿在身，我的胃依然是中国胃"的说法虽然听起来没那么高大，但却更符合中国人在国外的实际情况。However, this Chinese guy always found excuses to come to visit our apartment at weekends, for the purpose of pigging out on our Chinese food. Looking at his satisfactory face after meal, I had drawn a conclusion. Although the expression "I wear western clothes, my Chinese stomach is still the same" sounded not so noble and lofty, it was more suitable to describe the overseas Chinese as us.
