After visiting a few countries, I finally realized that the festivals we called "international" are merely Chinese creations. The Children's Day in South Korea is on the fifth of May. The most attractive part of it is that all people can have the day off. The parents do not have to go to work so they can make their best to create a perfect holiday for their children. As to someone like me who haven't become a parent yet, we purely share the benefit of the day.
As far as I can remember, the Children's Day in my childhood was always full of tasks. We had to rehearse our performance long before the holiday, for a show staged on May 31st. After reviewing all my Children's Days I had in my childhood, I was found either performing crosstalk or acting out small sketches. In the evening back home, my father would give me a small cake as a gift. After the show and the cake, my Children's Day came to a "satisfactory" end.
When I first came to South Korea, I felt really surprised to know that grown-ups also celebrate the Children's Day and have this day off. My Korean friends felt even more surprised when they heard about our Children's Day in China, "How can children be guaranteed to have a good holiday when their parents still have to go to work?" Now, I think their practice is more reasonable. Actually, only with the care and company from the parents can children really celebrate their festival to their heart's content.
