春秋时期，鲁国有个大臣叫孟武伯，说话从来不算数，皇帝对他很不满意。一天，皇帝举行宴会，孟武伯参加了，另外还有一个长得很胖的大臣，名叫郭重，，也参加了。孟武伯看见郭重，心想：这个胖子，平时很受宠，皇帝总偏向他，我得捉弄捉弄他！想到这里，他走近郭重，故意用手指着他的肚子，嘲笑地说："郭重啊，你吃了什么东西啊，怎么这么胖？"皇帝在旁边，听到了他的话，非常生气："把自己说的话都吃了，说话不算数，能不胖吗？"听到这句话，孟武伯马上就意识到这是在讽刺自己，他非常尴尬，脸一下子就红了。
During the Spring and Autumn Period, there was a minister of the State of Lu named Meng Wubo. He never kept his word and because of this the emperor was very dissatisfied.One day, when the emperor held a banquet, Meng Wubo also attended, along with another minister named Guo Zhong who was overweight. Meng Wubo, looking upon Guo Zhong assumed within himself that this fat man was highly favored by the emperor and given partialtreatment and should therefore be humiliated. And so, Meng Wubo approaching the fat man deliberatelypointed to his belly and mockingly said, "Guo Zhong, what did you eat to make you so fat?" The emperor, who was nearby, upon hearing his words became very angry and in response said, "Isn't one fat if he eats his own words?" On hearing it, Meng Wubo, suddenly realizing that the emperor's satirical words were directed at him personally, he became embarrassed and blushed with shame.
