There was a painter named Sun Zhiwei in North Song dynasty. Portraits he painted were true to life. Once he was consigned to paint a portrait. At this point, a friend asked him to have a drink. Then he told his disciples, "I have nearly finished this painting. You just need to color it up. Be careful when you do it." 孙知微走后,其中一个弟子故作高深地说:"这里面的人物都很传神,可是他手中的瓶子好像少了点东西,老师每次画瓶子,都会在瓶中画一枝鲜花,这次可能急着出门,所以没有画上,我们帮着画完吧!"After Sun Zhiwei, one disciple pretended to be profound and said, "The person in this painting is vivid. However, the bottle in his hand seems to lack something. Every time after the master painted the bottle, he would draw a flower in the bottle. This time he was in a hurry. So he forgot it. Let us finish it for him!" After Su Zhiwei came back from his friend's house, he found that there was a flower in the bottle. He felt annoyed but amused, "This bottle is a magic vase used by gods to face down sea monsters. After a flower was placed in it, it became a normal vase. It is really ridiculous." Then he just tore it off.词语注释:委托:( wěituō) v. consign栩栩如生:( xǔ xǔ rú shēng) adj. true to life着色:( zhuó sè ) v. color up故作高深:( gù zuò gāoshēn) v. pretend to be profound传神:( chuánshén) adj. vivid降服:( xiángfú) v.face down宝瓶:(bǎopíng) n.valuable vase意义: "弄巧成拙" 是指本来想耍弄聪明,结果却把事情弄糟了。"弄巧成拙"refers do a seemingly clever thing which turns out to be a foolish one instead. The thing was quite simple.
