Action horror film 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' took the top spot at the box office in its first weekend in theaters, beating out fellow newcomers 'Parker' and 'Movie 43.'

'Hansel & Gretel,' starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, earned $19 million. The R-rated film, distributed by Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures, displaced supernatural thriller 'Mama,' which took the top spot last weekend.

'Mama,' starring Jessica Chastain and distributed by Comcast Corp.'s Universal Pictures, earned $12.9 million in its second week, bringing its cumulative domestic grosses to $48.6 million.

'Silver Linings Playbook,' starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, continued strong business, climbing to No. 3 in its eleventh week in theaters. The film from Weinstein Co. grossed $10 million, bringing its domesticearnings to $69.5 million.

Coming in fourth place was 'Zero Dark Thirty,' about the hunt for Osama bin Laden and also starring Ms. Chastain, which earned $9.8 million. Distributed by Sony Corp.'s Sony Pictures, the film has taken in $69.9 million in cumulative domestic grosses.

'Parker,' a new action film featuring Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez, and distributed by FilmDistrict, earned $7 million. It was trailed by 'Django Unchained,' from the Weinstein Co., which took in $5 million to bring its cumulative domestic grosses to $146.3 million.

The final newcomer, comedy 'Movie 43' directed by Elizabeth Banks and several others and starring a bountiful cast including Emma Stone, Richard Gere, Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet, earned $5 million and was distributed by Relativity Media.
