BERLIN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Germany Saturday urged Russia to withdraw its troops completely from Georgia, German government
spokesman Thomas Steg said on Saturday in Berlin.
"According to our available information, Russia has started its withdrawal from Georgia but not completed, " said Steg.
The
spokesman said the German government's assessment concurred with that of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, adding that German Chancellor Angela Merkel had spoken by telephone to Saakashvili on Saturday.
"The German government expects that Russia complete the withdrawal without delay in line with the Six Point Plan signed byRussian President Dmitry Medvedev and pulls back its troops to thelines before the
outbreak of hostilities," Steg said.
He noted that road and rail transport routes between western and eastern Georgia had to be cleared and full freedom of movement re-established.
Russian troops should leave the zone for the south of South Ossetia, he added.
