PYONGYANG, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will take an "all-out confrontational" stand against South Korea for its confrontational policy, the official Korean Central News Agency reported Saturday, citing a military spokesman.
South Korea took various military provocations against the DPRK almost every day and the DPRK-targeted war drills reached so serious a phase that the DPRK could "no longer remain an onlooker," said the spokesman for the general staff of the Korean People's Army (KPA) in a statement.
The KPA will assume an "all-out confrontational posture" against South Korea to "shatter the provocations," the spokesman said.
The KPA will also take "a strong military retaliatory step" to counter South Korea's "preemptive strike," the spokesman added.
Relations between Pyongyang and Seoul have turned sour since last February, when South Korean President Lee Myung-bak took office with a pledge to get tough with the DPRK. The DPRK has cut off all official contact with South Korea.
