AMMAN, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- A UN initial report said about 330 million U.S. dollars are needed for Gaza's recovering, local daily The Jordan Times reported on Thursday.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) said in a statement to the daily that it completed its first assessment of damage and relief needs in the Gaza Strip, and about 330 million dollars are urgently needed for the repair of damaged homes and UNRWA offices in Gaza.

The funds will also be used to provide food for Gazans as well as supporting the education, health and environment sectors in the enclave, added the UNRWA statement.

However, the humanitarian agency noted that once its final assessment of damage is complete, this figure might double or triple.

The UNRWA is responsible for running 214 schools in the coastal strip, in which 8,400 teachers are educating 200,000 students, in addition to administering 19 major health centers.

Israel's three-week offensive has left 1,340 Palestinians dead, including 460 children and 106 women, and another 5,320 wounded, according to Palestinian figures quoted by the UN.

Thirteen Israelis were reported killed in the conflict, including four from rocket fire.
