Most of our banking arrangements are governed by inertia. The consumerprogram Watchdog recently claimed that people in the U.K. who are married are more likely to get divorced than to switch banks.

While the rates of divorce among entrepreneurs are probably no better -- and quite possibly worse -- than in the general population, one would imagine they take greater care over their financial arrangements. Here, three of them reveal their opinions on investments and private banks.

(Felix Dennis)

Currently ranked 88th in the Sunday Times Rich List, and worth over GBP 500 million ($749 million), Felix Dennis is a publisher, poet, philanthropist and one of the U.K.'s best-known entrepreneurs. In 1973 he launched Dennis Publishing, which today publishes over 50 magazines, including The Week and Viz.

'I don't take investment advice from wealthmanagers. I have grown several businesses from scratch and amassed many millions from my publishing empire -- why would I take advice from someone who has never experienced that?

'I have a private investment office which has managed my affairs for 30 years. It consists of a group of around seven experts that I handpicked. I am an ogre to work for and they are very patient. We get together to discuss tax, properties and philanthropy. I normally" target="_blank" title="ad.正常情况下;通常">normally give about 10% of my income a year to charities. They help with this.

'I keep around 20% of my assets in cash at a private bank, but I treat it just like a normalcommercial bank account. I don't take advice from my relationshipmanagers but I do enjoy the odd gin and tonic with them.

'I've never had an email address, mobile phone or a television, so I can spend more time doing the things I enjoy: writingpoetry, making money and working on the Forest of Dennis -- my saplingplantationproject in Warwickshire in the U.K. I would like to see it grow to 20,000 acres (81 square kilometers) and then I'll open it to the public. The forest currently covers 4.5 square kilometers.

'Ironically, although the forest started out as a hobby, it has been my best investment to date, as the price of the agricultural land I bought 10 years ago has increased five-fold.

'Although I don't sit around thinking about money, I do sit around thinking how I'm going to earn it -- when I'm not writingpoetry. Unless you are completely retired, earning money is the best form of wealth preservation.

I have just published my second business book called 88 -- The Narrow Road: A Brief Guide to the Getting of Money, which I hope will teach young entrepreneurs how to do this.

我刚出版了我的第二本商业书籍《走上致富小径88法》(88 -- The Narrow Road: A Brief Guide to the Getting of Money)。

'I don't make investments, although I do keep a six-figure sum in gold in a safe -- little pieces of gold rather than bars. People are puzzled at this, but I figure if the world comes to an end and I'm desperate for a snack, I don't want to hand over a whole ingot for a cheese sandwich.'

Brigitte Baumann

(Brigitte Baumann)

Brigitte Baumann is the founder and chief executive of angel financing services firm Go Beyond Ltd. and the president of EBAN, the European trade association for business angels. She was previously CEO and director of iWorld Group, a mobile content developer, and before that worked for American Express.

'I feel the same way about my wealthmanager as I do about my doctor: although I value their expertise, sometimes when it comes to an investment or a medical decision, I also do some research myself and form my own conclusions.

'My first experience with a wealthmanager was when I was working as a senior vice president at American Express. Back then I wasn't very interested in investing and decided to give some money to a passive asset manager.

'Wealth managers seem to treat you differently when you are an entrepreneur. When you are an executive in a corporation and you have nice regular chunks of money coming, it is easier.

'But now that I am in the investment phase of my company, they sometimes raise concerns. Four years ago, I launched Go Beyond, an international early-stage investing firm for private investors.

'I also make angel investments. You can tell from the questions I sometimes get when I withdraw money to make investments in start-ups that wealthmanagers don't understand why I am doing it. They don't consider angel investing as an asset class.

'I grew up in France and my family and I now live in Zurich but I have worked all over the world. Having earned money in many different countries and now being chief executive of a global company means I need a wealthmanager who can think big and serve me across borders. I have only ever used global private banks.

'Decisions on my personal and business banking are kept completely separate, and I manage my money with three different firms at the moment.

'Am I satisfied with my wealthmanager? Yes, but my expectations are not high!'

(David Frederik von Rosen-von Hoewel)

Dr. David Frederik von Rosen-von Hoewel was born in Germany in 1976 and is the chief executive and founder of Berlin-based online luxury fashion label, VonRosen. Dr. von Rosen-von Hoewel previously set up CareerConcept AG in Munich, a human capital investment company, for which he was named a 'Young Global Leader' by the World Economic Forum.

'I use my instinct to choose a wealthmanager. If I like the person and we have chemistry, they will better serve my needs.

'I decided I needed a wealthmanager after selling shares in my first venture, CareerConcept, a philanthropic investment opportunity.

'I decided to branch out into an unknown industry -- high-end fashion -- with a members-only online brand called VonRosen, which I launched last year in Europe and the U.S.

'Initially, I had a wealthmanager who I never heard from, although the results on my portfolio were good. He never called; never emailed. I missed a personal relationship -- a basis of trust -- so I changed banks.

'My wealthmanager now, who works in a big international bank, is the perfect counterpart to me. He is very cautious and prefers technicalanalysis to make investment decisions, whereas I'm much more compulsive and less risk-averse. We end up compromising on most investment ideas.

'As the old saying goes: you should never mix business with pleasure. I would never mix my portfolio investing with my business banking. They have nothing to do with each other and follow different aims.

'My No. 1 requirement for all my financial needs is trust.'
