Party General Secretary Hu Jintao delivered a speech, calling for joint efforts in the country's development.
Discussions focused on China's social and economic development, while representatives from the non-Communist parties put forward suggestions.
After listening to their proposals, Party General Secretary Hu Jintao reviewed the achievements made in the past year, especially progress in scientific research, environmental protection and bridging the gap between rich and poor.
Hu Jintao talked about the recent weather crisis, and stressed the importance of assessing the situation correctly and dealing with the tasks ahead. He said relief efforts continue to be the priority, as well as smooth traffic flow and electricity supply. He urged everyone to make further contributions towards resolving the situation.
Hu Jintao said development is the party's priority and cooperation with other parties is important. He said 2008 marks the 30th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up, and all the parties should work together to build a prosperous society.
