(CCTV 06-20-2008 17:14) In South China, rivers levels there are now dropping as the rain storms move north. But it's a different story along the Huaihe River where more rain means measures are still needed to prevent flooding.
The flood crest on the Xiangjiang River in Hunan province has passed. On Thursday, the river dropped at a rate of 8 centimeters an hour and the Xiangjiang is now at a safe level. With the heavy rains over, river levels will continue to drop.
The rain has also stopped in Zhejiang Province, and rivers, lakes and reservoirs are all at safe levels.
In Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the government lowered the emergency level from Two to Three. Local governments at various levels in flood stricken areas are helping people resume life, work and farming.
However, on Thursday more rain hit the Huaihe River area. Because of the surrounding low lands, flood control measures are especially important. Jiangsu, Anhui and Henan Provinces have all geared up for flood control.
