With China's reform of economy, it has been almost impossible to find a state-owned barbershop in China from several tens of years ago. But, mysteriously, I came across a state-owned barbershop just in Guangzhou.

The old barber, who was speaking in typical mandarin of Guangzhou style, serviced for me."We are the last nation-owned barbershop, another one was in Shipai was close down in the early of this year." He said proudly when he was cutting my hair, "We open at 8 every day. If you have came our shop in the early morning, you would find that many customers were waiting for services before 8 o'clock."

His scissors were flying and dancing with my hair, when he was speaking. A short time later, he finished cutting. Then I saw the time from an old clock in wooden frame on the wall, I amazingly found that it just had passed only a little more than twenty minutes, including the time of washing hair.

Neck and crop! It was real haircutting. I just learned that what the real modern speed was in an old state-owned barbershop but never experienced such a speed in the modernized hair salons. What mixed feelings those were.

"My grandpa and my uncle were the barbers who worked here for their entire working lives and I'm the third one of working here in my family." A young barber said proudly and a little bit sadly, "but now I don't know how long the shop will run by state."

The old lamps, the old toolboxes made with cane, the chairs in old style and the old wooden desktop and cabinets, as if all of them were talking an old story to me. If there wasn't playing "Challenging microphone" of Hunan TV channel on an old TV set, I almost forgot that what day today is.
