Step 1: Lead-in
Questions: Have you read thrilling and exiting stories? Have you seen the soul-stirring film?
Which of you had
adventurous experience? And would you like to tell us?what shall we do when we get into trouble?(have a
discussion and list them on the blackboard)
Step 2: Warming-up
1.Talk about the pictures on Page 15. Encourage the Ss to act out the story in front of the class..
2. Ask a student to tell the story.
Step 3: Listening
Listen to the tape.The short play has three scenes.There are two questions for each scene.
Some new words: footprint, shoeprint, fingerprint, tire, mystery
Active listening will help the Ss to get the
specific information. They don’t need to choose the correct answers to the questions.
After checking the answers, play the tape for them to look at the original texts and ask them to fill in the
missing words.
Step 4: Speaking
Write a short play to give the rein to your imagination. Before doing this , first read the situation you choose. Meanwhile, pay attention to the meanings of a few new words: scary, mysterious,

教学过程:
Step 1: Lead-in
Teacher shows a picture on the
screen and asks some questions about it.
Who is he? What part did he play in the picture? Have you ever acted in a play? What role did you play?
Step 2 Presentation
1.Revise and teach some jewellery vocabulary:
ring, earring耳环, necklace, gold, silver, diamond, etc.
2.Tell the Ss something about the author:
Have you ever read the story “The Diamond Necklace”? Do you know who wrote the story? What’s the
nationality of the writer? “The Diamond Necklace” was written by a
well-known Frenchman named Maupassant. He was a famous novelist(小说家) and short-story writer. He was born in 1850. As a schoolboy, he was very much interested in literature(文学), and won a prize for
one of his poems. So his
writing began at an early age, and he became a famous
novelist in his thirties. Most of his works were about
everyday life of the people of low social rank. As he had worked in government departments since 1871, he knew well about the life of government workers. And this experience helped him create his best short story “The Diamond Necklace”. His
writingstyle was direct and simple. All these can be seen from the play we are going to learn.
Maupassant suffered a great deal from
illness in his later life. He only lived for 43 years and died in Paris in 1893. He had a short life, but his works will last forever.
3.Give the Ss a brief
introduction to the play:
This is a one-act play, which is based on Maupassant’s best –known story “The Diamond Necklace”. There are three characters in the play: Mathilde Loisel, a young woman; Pierre Loisel,
Mathilde’s husband, a government worker; Jeanne, Mathilde’s good friend.
The story happened in Paris. One day, Pierre got an
invitation to a palace ball. He thought it important to him, and
decided to go to the party with his wife Mathilde. But Mathilde
