Her campaign for a second Grand Slam title was boosted by Russian 24th seed Ekaterina Makarova's upset 6-4, 6-4 win over Polish third seed Agnieszka Radwanska. Li has a 3-0 head-to-head lead over the left-handed Makarova, with all victories coming on hard courts. 'I [hope] I can play [at the] same level as today,' she said in an on-court interview.

Li said she found herself in the same situation as America tennis fans - unable to watch the U.S. Open from her hotel room due to issues with distribution rights. 'Today [and] yesterday, they didn't show [it] on TV,' she said. 'I tried to turn on the TV, tried to see some matches, but they didn't show it.'

Makarova, who snapped a three-match losing streak against Radwanska, said she was looking forward to her match against the more-experienced Li on Tuesday.
