Fees for German kindergartens are very low with less than 70 euros per month (about 600 yuan a month in China). Children from poor families or refugee families will not be charged and they will be treated fairly as others.

In Germany, children from poor families are ensured good kindergarten education like those from rich families. Children, whether their families are poor or rich, are placed in the same class or group, and the teachers are nice to them without bias and nobody gets preferential treatment. In China, there are kindergartens set up especially for children from rich families, while the ordinary families can only afford inexpensive kindergartens. In this way, hierarchies even exist in kindergartens, and children are purposely classified into high and low status when they are still young, which is by no means a fair phenomenon to see.

In Germany, on the first day of their kindergarten life, children of any age and from any family receive a warm welcome. Their photographs are stuck on the door of their classroom with their names attached. Each class has a logo as a way to distinct itself, either with a sunflower or a calf, in order to be easily recognized by the children.

All kindergartens in Germany, no matter it is in urban or rural areas or different provinces, would set up a big playroom for children where various corners are arranged, such as kitchenware corner, architecture corner, book corner, plant corner, and others. Here children can be amused by themselves. For example, they can independently create a highway with building blocks, or piece out a picture together with small bits of a jigsaw puzzle. It is notable that most German kindergartens have only a few simple musical instruments; you can not see sophisticated instruments like piano very often. When teachers teach a song, they prefer to clap hands or knock desk to beat time, which, they think, will help the children to concentrate on the lyrics, instead of being distracted by the music. There is also a special corner in the classroom to give children some private space to sit or think alone.

Desks and chairs are made of wood to guarantee the children's safety. Children who are new in the kindergarten are allowed to bring their own toys and bedclothes, in case that they might feel uneasy without the company of their mothers. Every child in a senior class is requested to take care of a newcomer, to be friends and play with him/her. By doing so, German kindergartens can on one hand help to train the older ones be responsible and on the other hand give younger ones a sense of security.

Teachers are not supposed to criticize or scold children. When talking to them they should squat down and look straight into their eyes. If necessary, the teacher would hold the child on the lap and console him/her. Children who get things done successfully will receive encouragement and praise from the teacher, and they are always given enough freedom to speak out their personal opinions bravely.

Because children of different ages are enrolled, there's no strict rule about the arrival time. It is acceptable that they get to the kindergarten before 9 o'clock in the morning. After their arrival, some children begin to eat and drink water, some want to hold their toys for a while, and others take to entertaining themselves with building blocks. At half past ten, the teacher would ring the bell to summon up the children, chat with them or tell stories, or he/she would divide them into small groups to draw pictures or read a book together. Children are also allowed a piece of time to do whatever they want.
