In 207 B.C., Xiang Yu's army fought with Qin's army in Julu (in modern Pingxiang, Hebei Province). In spite of the powerful enemy, Xiang Yu led his troops across the Zhangshui River (a river to the south of Julu). He ordered his men to destroy all the caldrons and boats after they had crossed the river, and burnt up all the tents for camping. Each man was only allowed to carry three days' rations. They had no means of retreat but had to forge ahead.
士兵一看将军有这样的气魄和决心,军心大振。巨鹿一战,秦军惨败,将领被斩,项羽从此名扬天下。
Xiang Yu's daringresolution greatly promoted the soldiers' morale. Together they crushed the Qin army and killed the general. Battle of Julu made Xiang Yu's name known in all states.
