One day, someone told Wu Zetian that Zhou Xing was plotting treason. Wu Zetian ordered Lai Junchen to investigate this case. Since Zhou Xing and Lai Junchen were good friends, Lai Junchen did not know how to interrogate him. He thought for a long term and finally came up with an idea.
一天，来俊臣请周兴到家里做客，他们一边讨论案子，一边喝酒。来俊臣对周兴说："有些囚犯再三审问都不肯承认罪行，有什么办法使他们招供呢？"周兴说："这很容易！只要拿一个瓮，用炭火在周围烧这个瓮，然后让囚犯到瓮里去，什么罪他敢不认？"于是来俊臣就吩咐侍从找来一个瓮，按照周兴的办法用炭在周围烧着，然后来俊臣站起来对周兴说："有人告密你谋反，你要是不认罪的话，就请你自己钻进这个瓮里去吧！"周兴非常惊慌，马上磕头承认罪行。
One day, Lai Junchen invited Zhou Xing to come to his home. They were drinking wine and discussing cases. Lai Junchen asked Zhou Xing, "Some prisoners would not admit their crimes after interrogated over and over again. What can make them confess?" Zhou Xing said, "That's easy. You just need to get a jar and just charcoal fire to burn this jar. Then you will ask him to come to stay in the jar. What kind of crime would he not confess?" Then Lai Junchen ordered his servants to find a jar and burnt it with charcoal fire as Zhou Xing suggested. Then Lai Junchen stood up and told Zhou Xing, "Someone said that you are plotting treason. If you don't confess, I have to ask you to come into the jar." Zhou Xing was very panic-stricken. He immediately kowtowed and confessed his crime.
