China's cities and provinces are gearing up for the country's first national tourism day.
On National Tourism Day, tourists will get half-price tickets for all scenic spots in north China's Shanxi Province, according to the provincial tourism bureau.
In the island province of Hainan, all tourists taking public transportation from Thursday to Saturday will get half-price tickets for the Li and Miao ethnic groups' cultural tourism zone.
The National Tourism Administration of China (CNTA) announced last month that China's National Tourism Day will be held annually on May 19, starting this year. The date was chosen to commemorate the day when China's ancient travel book writer Xu Xiake began writing his masterpiece "Travel Notes of Xu Xiake" in the Ming Dynasty.
Dai Bin, president of China Tourism Academy, said National Tourism Day was established to revive the public's desire to travel and to promote tourism consumption.
Time, money and government policy are three major factors that can help stimulate public tourism, and government policies like National Tourism Day can speed up the development of China's tourism industry, Dai said.

据山西省旅游局消息，在"中国旅游日"当天，山西省所有景区门票将实行半价。

在海南岛，从周四到周六，所有乘坐公共交通的游客都将得到黎族和苗族少数民族文化旅游区的半价门票。

上个月中国国家旅游局确定从今年开始以后的每年５月１９日为中国旅游日。选择５月１９日是为纪念中国明代伟大的旅行家徐霞客，他的宏篇巨作《徐霞客游记》就是在这一天开篇。



中国旅游研究院院长戴斌说，设立'中国旅游日'，可以更多地唤起国民的旅游意识，扩大旅游消费。

戴斌认为，刺激国民旅游的主要因素有三个，即时间、金钱和政策环境因素。设立"中国旅游日"等举措的实施将加快我国旅游业发展。
