The students ask three classmates and then fill the answers on the
survey form .

In order to talk about what ‘s the letter about and the students need to learn some new words.
Try to guess the meaning of these new words and expressions. Then read after the teacher. Students should be guided to imagine other words which are
related with the new words.
Step 3
To explain the new words to students. To help students learn how to use these new words.
Students must be encouraged to make sentences by using the words we have learned.

Prepare some exercises about the words for students to practice. Meanwhile, go through the class to see if any student needs help.

Pre-reading.
Read the questions and make sure students know what to do. Then, ask students to read the text “ a letter home” and find the answers about what’s the purpose of the letter.
Students could do this activity as a
survey by asking others in their class these questions. Students should be put into groups to discuss.
Step 2
While-reading.
Ask students to read through the passage quickly to get the main idea of the text “ a letter home”.
Do the first
reading to find out the main idea of this passage.
Then do the further
reading to find out answers to the questions in Pages 29-30
Step 3
Check the answers with the students. Then ask students to tell what words they are still unsure about.
Ask the students to read the sentences containing the unknown words and ask the rest of the class to guess the meanings according to the text.

Post-reading.
Play the tape to the students
Read after the tape, and underline the key
phrase and sentence.
