Unit4 Earthquakes

Introduction:
This is the first period of this unit. It includes Warming-up, New words, Pre-reading and Reading. In this period, students should get the first
impression of natural disasters, especially earthquakes. Because students have
learnt a little about earthquakes in their
geography lessons, I will let they talk about them, including the
phenomena before an
earthquake and what people should when it happens. This period will get students to learn about the “Brave City of China”, that is Tangshan.

Task 1:Talking about natural disasters
Q:What kind of natural disasters do you know? (show the Ss some pictures of natural disasters.)
Flood, drought, typhoon, hurricane, sandstorm, volcano, earthquake.
Task 2: Talking about earthquake.

Rescue workers dig out the injured and the dead. Survivors buried the dead, and felt very sad.

Damage: The city lay in ruins
More than 400000 people were killed or injured
Rescue: 150000 soldiers were sent to help.
Most of the 10000 miners were rescued.
